Professor Hassan was Professor of Clinical Physiology at Sultan Qaboos University for over 25 years. He set up the first Sleep Laboratory in the Sultanate and the Middle East and is a pioneer in the field of sleep disorders, especially obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep disorders have for some years been recognized as common and are risk factors for hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular disease, impaired mental functioning causing loss of concentration leading to low productivity and car accidents. Dr. Hassan conducts sleep studies; supervises sleep studies using patient-friendly equipment that can be used at home; analyses sleep studies and prescribes treatment according to the sleep study results. The diagnostic information is used for personalized treatment.

1988-to-2017 associated then Professor of Physiology at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.

Clinical services: Sleep medicine with home and lab monitoring lung function. autonomic function, non-invasive lower limb blood flow assessment for diabetics with home treatment.

Research: Funded by his Majesty’s Research Trust Fund and Oman Medical Research Council since 2001: Study the genetics of hypertension, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol in rural Oman. Scientific Publications; More than 150 publications and 5 books:  available in PubMed and Google Scholar cites. Google scholar citations 2383, h-index 22, I 10-index 37. Supervised 6 PhD and 7 Master degrees at SQU and received several international awards.
